Mobile device for warehouse mangement

The past decade or so has seen rapid advances in wireless mobile technology and the capability of wireless RF devices on the market. Available bandwidth has increased exponentially allowing data to be transferred faster and more frequently.

At the same time, device design has leapt forward, with a range of gadgets now packed into them and touch screen technology established as standard. The device has become more like a sophisticated PC, running the ‘Windows’ operating system to support a range of specialist features, and justifying the term ‘mobile computer’.

These technological advances have spurred the development of new graphical user interfaces (GUI) specifically for use in the wireless warehouse environment. The well established intuitive nature of GUI applications, coupled with touch screen technology and bar-code scanning, provide a powerful, easy to use tool with which warehouse operatives can execute a vast range of functions.

As well as specialist application software for task management, essential feedback from the Windows operating system, like advising battery life, can be made available to the user on a continuous basis. The familiar, intuitive Windows environment makes training new users in the RF application less onerous than previously. Touch screen capabilities also negate the need for a bulky keyboard facility reducing the size of the device itself and improving its manageability.
